MISSION

Peace Biblical Counseling exists to lead hurting people to Jesus through right understanding and application of God’s Word.

What is biblical counseling?

By “biblical counseling” we mean that your counselor is a Christian with special training and experience in applying the truths of the Bible to life. We believe that the Bible ultimately points us to a person and a relationship – Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer. We believe that real change comes when people learn to see themselves and their problems in the context of a living, vital relationship with Christ.

This does not mean that you must be a Christian to profit from our counseling, although we believe that deep and lasting change is brought about only by God himself.  Our approach in counseling would be considered cognitive behavioral therapy with a strong emphasis on the influence of living in healthy, encouraging community. Our counsel is based upon the Scriptures and other Christian teaching.

Bible-Based

Bible-based means that the authority by which we understand our behavior and suffering is not found from within, but from the pages of Scripture. God knows us, His created beings, better than we could ever know ourselves.

Church-Grounded

God’s gift to the world is His people working together to accomplish His purposes in His community. The community of believers cooperating to help the hurting means you and your counselor are backed by a church who is actively supporting and praying for you.

Heart-Targeted

To be heart-targeted means that we understand behavior and emotions to be indicators of where the heart is. While we help with behavioral issues, we actively seek from day one to discover the heart behind the behavior or emotions.

What to expect

Expect to be heard: Our counselors focus heavily on hearing from you. We cannot help you rightly if we don’t listen well! Expect a compassionate, calm, active listener as a counselor. Your first few sessions will likely be the counselor asking a plethora of guiding questions. (Prov 18:3)

Expect to Look at the Bible: Our counselors are trained not to look to their own opinions for counsel but to God’s Word. Therefore, integral to every counseling session is an examination of the Bible to see what God has to say about any given issue. (2 Tim 3:16-17; Heb 4:12)

Expect Homework: Integral to our counseling process is homework. We believe lasting change and understanding comes not from a single session, but from everyday practice and intentional effort given to live God’s way. Expect homework to be appropriate, biblical, practical, and measurable.

Expect Prayer: We believe God changes hearts, not us. Therefore, every session begins and ends with prayer. The church (though your name and situation are confidential) is praying for you. Peace Counselors are praying for you. Your counselor is praying for you.

Expect to Meet Regularly: The preferred rhythm is weekly or every other week for a 50-minute session. Session lengths can be flexible, depending on your counselor.
